Safety Practices Directory
MDI's Safety Practices Directory helps employees, contractors and visitors understand essential safety requirements at our project sites.
It covers personal protective equipment, construction site precautions, machinery operations, emergency preparedness, hazard reporting and safe working practices.
What to Follow Before Entering a Site
All employees, contractors, visitors and other authorised personnel must follow the applicable site safety requirements before entering or commencing work. Consider the following precautions:
- Obtain the necessary permission and site induction before entering designated work areas.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety helmets, high-visibility jackets and safety shoes, as required.
- Follow site signage, traffic instructions, restricted-area notices and directions from authorised personnel.
- Stay within designated walkways and visitor areas.
- Keep a safe distance from moving machinery, construction vehicles, excavations and active work zones.
- Report any unsafe condition, hazard or incident to the responsible site supervisor.
Personal Safety & Protective Equipment
Personal protective equipment plays an important role in reducing exposure to workplace hazards. All personnel must use equipment appropriate to their assigned tasks and the risks involved.
- 1. Safety Helmet: Wear approved head protection in designated construction and operational areas.
- 2. High-Visibility Jacket: Use high-visibility clothing wherever vehicle movement or low visibility presents a risk.
- 3. Safety Shoes: Wear appropriate protective footwear to reduce the risk of foot injuries.
- 4. Hand & Eye Protection: Use suitable gloves, goggles, face shields or other protective equipment as required by the task.
- 5. Fall Protection: Use appropriate fall-prevention and fall-protection systems when working at height, as required.
- 6. Equipment Inspection: Check protective equipment before use and report damaged, defective or unsuitable items immediately.
Be Involved in Workplace Safety
Safety is everyone's responsibility. Employees, supervisors, contractors and visitors all have a role in preventing accidents and maintaining a safe working environment. Here are five essential practices to follow:
General site meal service times:
- Stay Alert: Be aware of your surroundings, potential hazards and ongoing activities before starting work.
- Follow Procedures: Understand the task, follow approved work methods and obtain the required authorizations before carrying out high-risk activities.
- Use Equipment Correctly: Operate machinery and vehicles only when authorised, trained and competent to do so.
- Speak Up: Report hazards, near misses, unsafe acts and incidents promptly. Stop or avoid unsafe work where necessary and alert the responsible supervisor.
- Know the Emergency Plan: Familiarise yourself with emergency contacts, evacuation routes, assembly points and the location of relevant safety equipment.
